Built in 1914 for Belfast City Councellor William Tyrell, The Cairn is a detached
seaside villa with classic oak panelling, Dutch fireplaces and wonderful stained
glass. His son Air Vice Marshall Sir William Tyrell was surgeon to the Queen Mother
and the present day Queen. So proud of the fact that his son held such an illustrious
position William Senior had balconies built at both the front and rear of the house in
anticipation of a Royal Visit. Sadly much to his disappointment this never materialised.
